THE PREDICTION
17-year-old Dino Prizmic is through to the quarter-finals of a tour-level event for the first time after a comfortable couple of wins, only his second and third at this level, over Duje Ajdukovic and Zsombor Piros. The Croat is a highly touted youngster with plenty of ITF victories to his name and some excellent results on the Challenger tour this season but it will be fascinating to see what he can do in this much tougher test against Alexei Popyrin. World number 90 Popyrin is capable of much better tennis than his current ranking suggests and he has impressed so far this week with two straight-set wins of his own over Benjamin Bonzi and Sebastian Ofner, the latter of which is a great result on clay right now. The Aussie is a tough player to back with full confidence given his erratic results over the last two seasons but taking him to earn at least a set seems the suitably cautious way to avoid a result here. Prizmic will be backed to the hilt as Croatia’s potential next star and it would not be a surprise to see him ride that wave through to the semis.
