THE PREDICTION

World number six Alexander Zverev received a bye to the round of 16 at the Los Cabos Open as the top seed this week but he could start a little sluggishly four weeks on from his most recent match. The 26-year-old took the first two sets from Daniil Medvedev before a remarkable comeback, or capitulation on his part, saw the Russian reach the final – a result all too familiar to Zverev after he lost his only Grand Slam final to Dominic Thiem in similar fashion back in 2020. Zverev may not be welcomed back to Los Cabos with open arms after a grotesque outburst here two years ago saw him slam an umpire’s chair with his racket and that could prove a factor later in the draw, with most players likely to curry favour with the local crowd in his stead.

World number 84 Yoshihito Nishioka conceded just one game to an out-of-sorts Flavio Cobolli on Tuesday but his tricky game has yet to take a set form Zverev in two meetings and it would be a surprise to see anything different here in a bad match-up for the Japanese. Back Zverev to start strongly in straight sets.

TIP: ALEXANDER ZVEREV TO WIN 2-0
