Learner Tien vs Zachary Svajda prediction

Despite reaching the final last year, Learner Tien suffered an early exit at the China Open this time around, losing in three sets to Hubert Hurkacz. The 20-year-old advanced to his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final at the Australian Open right at the start of the year. He also achieved his best ever result at a Masters event in Montreal, advancing to the semi-finals before a loss to eventual champion Ben Shelton. He is ranked safely inside the top 20 of the world rankings. 

Tien received a bye in the first-round and now faces Zachary Svajda. The 23-year-old beat Fabian Marozsan in the previous stage. Svajda failed to serve out the match at 5-3 in the second set and then spurned three match points at 6-5 up. Nevertheless, he completely dominated the tiebreak to seal victory, winning 6-3 7-6 (2) after one hour and 19 minutes.

Tien has to be regarded as the clear favourite to progress to the next round of the tournament.
