19-year-old Luca Van Assche will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 62nd after an excellent comeback victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Wednesday. The Frenchman thrives on his favoured clay, taking a set from Novak Djokovic in defeat at the Banja Luka Open back in April, and he stands a fair chance at another huge upset here against world number 19 Alexander Zverev as the German continues to recuperate on tour. 26-year-old Zverev is still far from the level that saw him set a career-high ATP world ranking of world number two this time last season after suffering a serious ankle injury in the semi-finals of Roland-Garros last summer but he is through to the Hamburg Open quarter-finals without yet dropping a set. The German remains the favourite to come through this first encounter on home clay but Van Assche has proven himself gutsy against the top players on clay and this could easily go to three. The suitably cautious call is taking Zverev to earn at least a set here but you could add at least a tiebreak with Van Assche seeing one in each of his two matches so far this week.
