World number 27 Alexander Zverev returns to the scene of his season-ending injury last summer with a huge question mark over his form. The 26-year-old has impressed as much as concerned since making his return to the tour at the start of this season following a horrendous foot injury suffered against eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals here last season, with Friday’s defeat to Nicolas Jarry in Geneva a tough one to take coming into Paris. The German is one of the better players on clay when in form but he can occasionally struggle in the opening rounds of Grand Slams, with a five-set victory over Juan Pablo Varillas in Melbourne this January followed by a four-set defeat, still out of sorts, against Michal Mmoh. World number 306 Lloyd Harris comes into Roland-Garros on a protected ranking after struggling with his fitness for most of this season and he will be desperate to get some payback after losing the most important match of his career against Zverev in the quarter-finals of the US Open in 2021. Zverev leads Harris 3-0 in their head-to-head but it is hard to back him confidently right now, so take the German to win outright.
