THE PREDICTION

Former world number two Alexander Zverev was at the peak of his powers this time last season and he looked the better player in a tight semi-final with Rafael Nadal before suffering a serious foot injury. The 26-year-old has blown hot and cold since returning to tour at the start of this year but back-to-back straight set wins so far at Roland-Garros suggest he is dialled-in and eager to play his way back into last summer’s form. Zverev leads world number 12 Frances Tiafoe 6-1 after most recently beating the American in an exciting Vienna Open final two years ago but Tiafoe will have big designs on this latest meeting as a much-improved player. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of the US Open last season, coming closer than anyone to beating eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz, and he recently claimed his second ATP title at the Houston Open, on clay, in April.

Tiafoe came back from a set and a break down to stun in-form Aslan Karatsev on Thursday and he is at his very best in show-court night sessions like this on Saturday. The pair shared a five-set thriller at the US Open back in 2019 and this could well be their second. Back both players to earn at least a set, or Tiafoe to earn at least one, and leave the victor up to chance.
