THE PREDICTION
This should be another thrilling instalment of a fierce rivalry between world number three Daniil Medvedev and number 17 Alexander Zverev, with Medvedev leading their head-to-head 9-6. 27-year-old Medvedev has won each of their three meetings this season to take a significant lead but Zverev was still on his comeback from a season-ending injury suffered last summer and two of three encounters this year have still come very tight in three sets. There have always been streaks in their head-to-head, with Zverev winning each of their first four encounters between 2016-2018 and Medvedev returning the favour between 2020-2021 with five on the spin. Both former Cincinnati champions have looked rock-steady this week but even if they had not been they would have likely improved for this grudge match.
Medvedev is second only to Carlos Alcaraz in wins this season with five ATP titles and Zverev is still a few gears away from his very best on tour. Take the Russian to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors and add at least a tiebreak in the match with six played in their last 13 sets.
