THE PREDICTION
Former world number two Alexander Zverev was at the peak of his powers on clay here last season before suffering a serious foot injury and having to retire in the semi-finals against eventual champion Rafael Nadal. The 26-year-old has done reasonably well since returning to tour at the start of this year and, whilst his defeat to Nicolas Jarry in the semi-finals of the Geneva Open last week was avoidable, the German has now lost to the eventual champion on each of his last three tournaments after defeats to Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid and Daniil Medvedev in Rome. World number 86 Alex Molcan could be a handful in this first encounter between the two but it should take a player ranked a lot higher, or in much better form, to knock Zverev out over five sets. 25-year-old Molcan did well to oust a cult hero here, Hugo Gaston, in three sets on Tuesday but Zverev can be backed to come through the outright winner.
