THE PREDICTION

World number nine Jannik Sinner has all the tools required to excel on grass as a well-balanced player with considerable options on both wings. The 21-year-old impressed at Wimbledon last summer, beating Carlos Alcaraz in four sets before a five-set defeat to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, but he may take some warming up on the surface here in Rosmalen after a tough exit to Daniel Altmaier at Roland-Garros two weeks ago. World number 47 Alexander Bublik is much better than his current ranking suggests but the Kazakh has been enduring his worst run of form on tour for some time. The 25-year-old snapped a three-match losing streak with a straight-sets victory over David Goffin to put a choppy clay swing behind him and he will be hoping for further improvements on grass, on which he excelled last summer. Sinner has won each of their two previous meetings but this first encounter on grass may come close if Bublik’s powerful but fragile serve is having a good day. Back Sinner to edge through outright.
