World number 55 Alexander Bublik takes a poor five-match losing streak into the Madrid Masters but he enjoyed an excellent run to the quarter-finals here two years ago with victories over Denis Shapovalov and a peaking Aslan Karatsev. It is hard to tell how or when the 25-year-old will next win a match but it is always worth leaving him out of an accumulator as perhaps the most unpredictable player on the ATP tour. World number 100 Daniel Elahi Galan comes into Madrid with an almost worse record for 2023 at 2-9 but the Colombian finished runner-up at the Sarasota Challenger two weeks ago to get some clay matches under his belt. Bublik beat Galan in three sets at the Miami Open last season and he should beat him again here, in straight sets at his best, but it could be worth a one-off on Galan to earn at least a set or leaving alone entirely.
