ALEX DE MINAUR VS JAN-LENNARD STRUFF PREDICTION
This is a really intriguing clash between world number 11 Alex de Minaur, who has enjoyed a transformative past two seasons to become a serious top 10 talent, and world number 41 Jan-Lennard Struff, who is a serious threat on his favoured clay.
34-year-old Struff has a lot more raw power than the usual clay-favourers on tour and he has used it to great effect on the surface in recent seasons, twice taking Carlos Alcaraz to three sets at the Madrid Open (including in the final last spring) and recently beating Taylor Fritz to win his maiden ATP title at the Munich Open. Two straight-set wins so far in Paris is a big statement of intent but 25-year-old De Minaur is also yet to drop a set, albeit from a slightly kinder draw.
The Aussie has been in reasonable form on clay since the start of the swing, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in three tight sets in Rome two weeks ago, but he would much prefer the pace of a hardcourt where his own incredible speed can bamboozle opponents more effectively. Back Struff to earn at least two sets as the likelier of two very capable victors.
