World number 18 Alex de Minaur overcame a tough assignment on grass to beat Adrian Mannarino in three sets on Friday as he continues to impress at Queen’s. The 24-year-old was enjoying an excellent season up until lifting his most prestigious ATP title at the Acapulco 500 in March but he had struggled to find his best tennis across the clay. De Minaur beat world number six Holger Rune in three sets in the semi-finals in Acapulco but the Dane leads their head-to-head record 2-1 after claiming two wins in quick succession on indoor hardcourts late last season. The 20-year-old went down an early break to Lorenzo Musetti on Friday but he was let back in by the Italian to come through in straight sets despite not yet finding his best level on grass, a surface on which he has plenty to learn. Rune is serious competitor and clear future number one but De Minaur’s game marries well with the conditions here at Queen’s and experience should see him edge through. Back the Aussie to win outright.
