THE PREDICTION
This could be one of the best matches of the first round between world number 34 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who is no stranger to a five-set thriller at this level, and 19-year-old rising star Arthur Fils in a rematch of their first round clash at Roland-Garros last month. Davidovich Fokina won that day in four sets in Paris but Fils was coming from a stunning maiden ATP title from the Lyon Open with very little time to recalibrate. The Frenchman initially looked strong on hardcourts with back-to-back runs to the semi-finals of Montpellier and Marseille in February and it remains to be seen how he fares outside of France in this debut season after losing his only match on grass last month to an admittedly tough grass-courter in Adrian Mannarino. Davidovich Fokina was very impressive in a three-set defeat to Novak Djokovic in the third round in Paris last month but one loss on grass since also sees him come in a little undercooked. The Spaniard can be backed to come through the outright winner on experience but in that case it might be worth a one-off on this match to see five sets instead.
