World number 42 Lorenzo Sonego received a bye to the round of 16 at the Gstaad Open as the third seed here and he stands a reasonable chance at a title here amidst a wide open draw. The 27-year-old has three ATP titles to his name, one on each surface, including the 2021 Cagliari Open on clay and he will be eager to return to his encouraging clay form from earlier this year after a poor run on the grass. Sonego reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros via excellent wins over Ugo Humbert, Ben Shelton and seventh seed Andrey Rublev but Albert Ramos-Vinolas is an out-and-out clay expert who snapped a five-match losing streak on Tuesday with a confidence boosting win over Fabio Fognini. The 35-year-old’s now 7-19 record for 2023 is still concerning but he leads Sonego 2-0 in their head-to-head, both wins coming on clay, to look a real threat here. Back Sonego to earn at least a set inside an accumulator or take the Italian to come through outright on its own.
