THE PREDICTION
World number 72 Albert Ramos-Vinolas remains a serious threat to most players on his favoured clay but the Spaniard brings a woeful 5-14 record for the season so far into Rome. The 35-year-old snapped a seven-match losing streak at the Madrid Open last time out before a straight-sets defeat to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to suggest he will be in better shape than we have seen recently but world number 126 Francesco Passaro certainly has a chance at an upset here. The 22-year-old was one of five Italians to receive a wildcard to the ATP draw here in Rome and wins over Fernando Verdasco and Aslan Karatsev on clay within the last month show he is capable of competing with tour stalwarts. Ramos-Vinolas should have enough to get through here but it could be worth backing Passaro to snatch at least a set outside of an accumulator.
