THE PREDICTION
Former world number 17 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has endured a really tough past 12 months on tour and it will be fascinating to see if he can build back his once formidable level on his favoured clay over the coming months. The 36-year-old veteran has won four ATP titles at this level, most recently here in 2022, and a three-set victory over Pedro Cachin on Monday suggests his affinity for the Cordoba court could see him enjoy a run this week. World number 93 Federico Coria is even more of a clay specialist than Ramos-Vinolas, at least in terms of his struggles on other surfaces, and the Argentine will enjoy a partisan atmosphere here on home soil. A comeback over fifth seed Daniel Altmaier suggests he is building on some strong form found at a Challenger last week and he beat the Spaniard in straight sets to reach the final here last season, where he fell to Sebastian Baez. With little evidence to suggest ARV is on the up again, other than a sense that he is too good to stay down for long, back Coria to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
