World number eight Taylor Fritz will be eager to improve on a quarter-final exit at the Stuttgart Open last week as he gears up for a genuine tilt at Wimbledon in two weeks’ time. The 25-year-old took Rafael Nadal to five sets in a gruelling thriller in the quarter-finals there last summer and he is one of the better grass-courters inside the top 10 with two of his five ATP titles coming on the surface from Eastbourne in 2019 and last summer. World number 46 Adrian Mannarino also enjoys these conditions, with his first ATP title claimed on grass back in 2019, but he survived an early scare on Tuesday in a comeback win over Liam Broady. The 34-year-old is a wily competitor capable of occasional upsets but Fritz has won each of their last two encounters in straight sets, including en-route to the Delray Beach Open title back in February, to level their head-to-head at 2-2. Three sets would not be a surprise here, though, so back the American to win outright.
