Nadia Podoroska’s Wimbledon debut went to plan on Tuesday when she secured a hard-fought win over Ann Li, a win that was foreshadowed by a run to the quarter-final of the Bad Homburg Open just a week prior. The Argentine, who is at a career-high 39th in the world rankings at present, clearly enjoys playing on grass while she is no stranger to performing at Grand Slams having made the semi-finals of the French Open last year.
Tereza Martincova has likewise shown a proficiency on this surface though. After quarter-final runs in both Nottingham and Birmingham in the lead up to Wimbledon, the Czech saw off 28th seed Alison Riske in the first round in a result that wasn’t entirely unexpected given recent form.
Both will feel confident of further progression then, and that should lead to an entertaining match that could ebb and flow, so expect this one to go to three sets.
