Emil Ruusuvuori, meanwhile, made it to the second round at Flushing Meadows for the second year running courtesy of a four-set win over Kamil Majchrzak and the burgeoning talent is definitely one to watch over the next couple of years.
THE PREDICTION
Bautista Agut’s round one victory was typical of him as he ground Kyrgios down by forcing mistakes from his opponent’s racket and, although he hasn’t been at his best for most of 2021, he showed some promising signs that he can turn his season around. The improving Ruusuvuori will undoubtedly be a danger, and will likely put up a sterner resistance than Kyrgios did, but the Spaniard is vastly experienced at Grand Slam level and tipped to come through this test in four competitive sets.
