THE PREDICTION

World number four Dominic Thiem came through a real battle with Aslan Karatsev in the round of 16, coming back from a set down to beat the Russian in three. The current US Open champion will face Roberto Bautista Agut for a fifth time in their careers, though not since 2018 and since then both players have evolved into their very best selves. Bautista Agut has come past two powerhouses in Reilly Opelka and Alexander Bublik to reach this stage and rectify a hiccup from last week, where he lost in the first round of the Rotterdam Open. 27-year-old Thiem was the winner the last time these players met at the St. Petersburg Open in 2018 with RBA taking the first three matches to lead their head-to-head 3-1. This could really go either way considering Thiem’s struggle to put away Karatsev but nevertheless the likeliest outcome is that the world number four takes this in straight sets. However, Bautista Agut should be able to force a decider here.
