THE PREDICTION

In an unfortunate turn of events for Marton Fucsovics the Hungarian will have to face world number eight Andrey Rublev just four days after losing to him in the final of the Rotterdam Open. What is worse is that 23-year-old Rublev will also have an extra two days’ rest on Fucsovics, due to his round of 16 walkover with Richard Gasquet pulling out. Rublev will play his first match here in Doha as the reigning champion at the quarter-final stage which is a massive head-start for a player so ruthless on tour, especially at the ATP 250 and 500 events. World number 46 Fucsovics is in excellent personal form and earned his runner-up place at the Rotterdam Open last weekend but a straight-sets defeat to Rublev looks likely to be the same outcome four days later against the Russian, whose record against players ranked below him is almost second to none. Fucsovics forced a tiebreak in the final last Sunday and we could see that again here but it would be a risk to add on to a straight-sets victory for Rublev, the clear option here.
