THE PREDICTION
In a week full of shocks across all three ATP events on the calendar, Pierre-Hugues Herbert’s defeat of the Open 13 reigning champion Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday was certainly not in the script. The 29-year-old beat his first top five opponent in taking out the Greek over three sets and played to very best of his ability, aided by his excellent doubles sensibilities at the net. World number 93 Herbert will face fellow Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the semi-finals riding an absolute wave and it will be down to 22-year-old Humbert’s cool mentality to weather this storm. The world number 31 came back from a set down against qualifier Arthur Rinderknech yesterday and will be targeting a final showdown with Daniil Medvedev here on Sunday. Pierre-Hugues Herbert played out of his skin against Tsitsipas but has lost the element of surprise now. He could still force a decider in this one as Humbert is no stranger to a three-set match, but the younger Frenchman should come through to reach the final. Ugo Humbert to win in three seems the likeliest outcome here.
