World number 28 Aslan Karatsev looked refreshed in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Open after a tough campaign at the Miami Open two weeks ago and the Russian totally dismantled the game of young Lorenzo Musetti on Monday. The Dubai Open champion will face Stefanos Tsitsipas for the first time, with the Greek also taking a week off to recalibrate after a pretty tumultuous quarter-final loss to Hubert Hurkacz in Miami in which he went into a worrying meltdown. The 22-year-old will have been embarrassed by his outburst in a heated exchange with his father and coach and that brings that partnership into light once again, with many onlookers suggesting a new coach from outside of the family is really all that might be stopping the Greek from reaching his full potential. This is a horrendously difficult first match for Tsitsipas, with a bye to the second round, against a player who will be aiming to pick apart his game from the off. The world number five has made the final of a clay Masters before, losing to Novak Djokovic at the 2018 Madrid Open, and his clay court results suggest he can get the job done here whilst Karatsev is still an unknown entity in these huge matches. Take Tsitsipas to win and at least one tiebreak in the match here with the Russian well capable of pushing it all the way.
