THE PREDICTION

31-year-old John Millman was in fine form against an out-of-sorts Ugo Humbert to comfortably win their first round match at the Monte-Carlo Open. The Aussie will be an industrious doe for 16th seed Cristian Garin here but the Chilean’s prowess on clay should begin to tell the longest this first meeting continues. 24-year-old Garin was losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday before the rain came to save his set and he returned on Tuesday with a wholly different attitude, beating the Canadian via a first-set tiebreak and a confident display. Garin has five ATP titles on clay to his name already, including his native Chile Open he won last month, and that pedigree should be too much for the world number 44 here. Three sets would not be a surprise with Millman in this mood but the likeliest outcome is another straight-sets victory for the Chilean.
