Reigning Monte-Carlo masters champion from 2019 Fabio Fognini reached the round of 16 with little fuss after a second straight-sets victory, this time over Jordan Thompson. The 15th seed will face another clay-loving Serbian here having beaten Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round as Filip Krajinovic came through his second round match against lucky loser Juan Ignacio Londero masterfully. World number 37 Krajinovic will be a difficult test for Fognini, who has lost to the Serb in both of their previous matches, but the Italian is truly dialled-in here in Monaco and that should frighten the rest of the draw. 33-year-old Fognini has never even taken a set off Krajinovic and that suggests this could be the first match he needs a decider to win this week.
