World number 27 Casper Ruud would be a lot higher up a dedicated clay-court rankings table and showed that with a masterful display against Diego Schwartzman on Wednesday, completely dismantling the Argentine in straight sets. The 22-year-old will face recent Andalucia Open champion Pablo Carreno Busta after the Spaniard did a similar thing to a seasoned clay-courter in Karen Khachanov in the second round. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record with a win apiece on clay, although PCB beat Ruud as a teenager back in 2017 and the Norwegian returned the favour in their most recent meeting at the Kitzbuhel Open in 2019. The way Ruud has played so far this tournament probably pins him as the favourite here but both players are in excellent form and both look likely to take a set here.
