- 21-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina showed he should not underestimated for the remainder of the clay season after his third successive straight-sets victory this week against Lucas Pouille on Thursday.
- The world number 58 should reach a new career-high ranking next Monday or get very close to his career-high 51 he achieved just last month after reaching his first quarter-finals of the year in Montpelier.
THE PREDICTION
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is fully tuned in to this week’s campaign at the Monte-Carlo Open and reached his first quarter-final at an ATP 1000 event after an excellent performance in beating the returning Lucas Pouille. The Spaniard also overpowered the eighth seed Matteo Berrettini in the second round and he will be at the peak of his powers when he meets Stefanos Tsitsipas for the first time. World number five Tsitsipas has looked in excellent shape this week too and looks like he has a few extra gears to find should he need them after a robust but ultimately comfortable win over Cristian Garin. This should be a fierce first encounter between two emotional young players and the temptation here after such a strong week for the Spaniard is to see this go to three, though the likeliest outcome is another straight-sets win for Tsitsipas. It could be worth taking the Greek to win outright and add a tiebreak in this match instead, with two so far this week for Davidovich Fokina.
