- 30-year-old Dan Evans secured the biggest result of his career with an emphatic straight-sets victory over world number one Novak Djokovic on Thursday to reach his first ever Masters quarter-finals.
- The world number 33 reached a career-high 28th in the ATP world rankings earlier this season after winning his first title at the Murray River Open in Melbourne and before this week he had not won a match on clay since 2017.

- World number 15 David Goffin beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the round of 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters on Thursday to keep hold of a perfect record this week.
- The 30-year-old Belgian won his first of five ATP titles on clay at the 2014 Kitzbuhel Open and recently won the fifth of his career at the Montpellier Open.
The quality of tennis that Dan Evans produced to beat a top six player for the first time in his career on Thursday, let alone the world number one, was simply outstanding and he will fancy his chances at extending his stay in Monte-Carlo here. Evans achieved one of the best matches of his career when he last faced David Goffin, beating the Belgian in straight sets at the 2020 ATP Cup with some scintillating tennis and he will fuel well on the momentum and self-belief garnered from beating Novak Djokovic. Both players have an ATP 250 title to their name this season already and whilst it feels in a big way that Evans is finally “here” at 30 years old, Goffin has been very impressive in returning from a terrible drop in form last season and his display against Alexander Zverev suggests he is “back”.
