THE PREDICTION
Taylor Fritz made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Sardegna Open before losing to third seed Lorenzo Sonego and that is an excellent finish on your first clay-court tournament of the year. The 23-year-old American is well past his poor form that dominated his 2020 season and is a dangerous player across all surfaces, though he has drawn a short straw here. Ninth seed Roberto Bautista Agut holds a healthy 4-1 record over Fritz in their head-to-head record and has won their last two meetings in a row at Roland-Garros and Halle in 2019. The 32-year-old Spaniard took a week off following his excellent Miami Open campaign, in which he beat the reigning champion John Isner and first seed Daniil Medvedev, and he should be able to make another deep run in an ATP Masters 1000 here. Fritz will have been targeting a quarter-final place at this tournament coming in and certainly has it in him to cause a shock but RBA should be able to win this outright in two or three.
