THE PREDICTION

25-year-old clay specialist Laslo Djere broke back into the top 50 of the ATP world rankings for the first time since February 2020 with an excellent Sardegna Open campaign, finishing runner-up to Lorenzo Sonego on Sunday. The Serb will likely be feeling a long, three-set final in his legs on Tuesday but mentally should be pleased with his progress and well-practiced, on a surface he has won two titles on, ready for a tilt at a clay Masters. World number 23 Karen Khachanov came to Monte-Carlo with little clay-court practice behind him but did win in the Men’s Doubles first round alongside Andrey Rublev on Sunday to get a feel for the court and the Russian is a strong, durable player across all three surfaces. This should be a long match as so many involving Khachanov are, with three sets likely. However, Djere can win this in his current form. It will be close, and three sets is probably the safer option, but take the Serb to make a statement win here.
