THE PREDICTION
Two left-handers look set to cancel each other out here in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Open and that should eventually see world number 34 Adrian Mannarino’s higher quality shine through. Federico Delbonis played well at the Andalucia Open last week in Marbella but a round of 16 defeat by Norbert Gombos does not bode well for facing 32-year-old Mannarino here. The Frenchman will have a slight home advantage in front of limited crowds and won their previous match, albeit six years ago now, with a comprehensive straight-sets win at the Auckland International in 2015. Mannarino was stunned a little by Diego Schwartzman at the Miami Open last time out but played well in a first round straight-sets win over Miomir Kecmanovic and we should see more of the same here with the Frenchman capable of winning in two.
