THE PREDICTION
Dan Evans was stunned last week at the Sardegna Open as he lost in a high-quality encounter to rising star Lorenzo Musetti, though the Italian saved four match points before going on to win. It feels like Evans is getting closer all the time to finding a sometimes lacking cutting edge in the key moments and the 30-year-old won the first ATP title of his career in Melbourne earlier this year to show for that progress. Fellow 30-year-old Dusan Lajovic is another player with plenty of potential, especially on his favoured clay, but the Serb can sometimes fail to show up on court and this looks a finely balanced match-up between two players who took the first set against Frances Tiafoe at the recent Miami Open before losing in three to the American. Evans looked great on clay last week in Italy and dropped out of the Men’s Doubles semi-finals there to come to Monte-Carlo early, whilst Lajovic is playing alongside Alexander Bublik here to get some feel for the surface ahead of this first round match.
