This looks set to be one of the matches of the third round at the Miami Open as Jannik Sinner and Karen Khachanov meet for a third time in their careers, tied at one win apiece in their head-to-head record. World number 31 Sinner lost a five-set marathon match in the first round of last season’s US Open to Khachanov, having gone two sets up, but the Italian returned the favour earlier this year at the Great Ocean Road Open. Sinner went on to win that event in Melbourne to make it now two ATP titles won already and he will be the favourite here against 240year-old Khachanov despite his current lower rank. World number 22 Khachanov has rediscovered some form this season after a torrid 2020 and he should find an extra gear for this match that already looks like a future rivalry brewing. Both players swept aside their second round opponents, having received first-round byes as seeds here in Miami, and this match looks set to be a real tug of war. It could be safest to opt for this match to see three sets and leave the winner up to chance here, though if forced to pick a winner it should be 19-year-old Sinner.
