THE PREDICTION

There was a real sense of world number 58 Frances Tiafoe working himself out on court against Dan Evans on Friday night. The 23-year-old looked to be struggling with the humidity in a big way for the first two hours and seemed lethargic towards the end of the second set and yet a slip-up in concentration from his opponent let him back into a match he had been so close to losing. Tiafoe’s late-night fightback from a set down to beat Evans should motivate the Florida native in priceless ways and he will be a big threat for the remainder of his Miami Open campaign. 16^th seed Dusan Lajovic came through his second round match against Ernesto Escobedo in comfortable straight sets and will eb well aware that he will face a rejuvenated, if slightly tired Tiafoe in the last third round match of the day. The pair will meet for a third time in their careers with one win apiece, though Tiafoe was the straight-sets winner in their recent meeting at the European Open last Autumn. Whatever crowds present are more than likely to heavily back the American here and he can ride the momentum of what looked like a season-defining fightback last time out to burst through this match. Set-wise Lajovic is a little unpredictable so it is best to opt for an outright win for the American here.
