THE PREDICTION
This is an almost immediate rematch for Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov after the Canadian beat Hurkacz in straight sets last week in the round of 16 of the Dubai Open. Hurkacz was under par that day but the Pole is an intelligent player and will be a much tougher prospect this time around. The 24-year-old beat a dangerous Denis Kudla in two tough sets on Saturday and will play alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime on Sunday night to keep his game sharp and he still leads the head-to-head record with Shapovalov 2-1. World number 11 Shapovalov went a set down against Ilya Ivashka before he got his game going but the 21-year-old never does anything easily. This match looks very tight indeed and could be worth taking as a total of three sets and leaving the winner up to chance. If forced, Hurkacz will be eager to make amends for last week’s loss and could out-manoeuvre Shapovalov into the round of 16.
