THE PREDICTION
Miami Open first seed Daniil Medvedev beat Yen-hsun Lu in a procession on Friday, conceding just four games to the Taiwanese Challenger veteran to reach the third round. The world number two will face Alexei Popyrin for a third time, having defeated the 21-year-old at Wimbledon 2019 and the Australian Open a year later. World number 86 Popyrin is in excellent form and looks to be on the rise up the ATP rankings after a first title won last month at the Singapore Open. He has confidently beaten tough opponents in Feliciano Lopez and the 30th seed Reilly Opelka to reach the third round here but his journey looks to have been cruelly cut short by drawing Medvedev. 25-year-old Medvedev is an absolute machine at Masters level and above and simply has no natural predators at the Miami Open this season. Popyrin will be a real challenge and could force as much as a tiebreak here but it is likeliest that Medvedev comes through this match in commanding straight sets.
