World number 87 Sebastian Korda was well-fancied to beat 10th seed Fabio Fognini on Saturday and did not disappoint, taking out the Italian in three sets after conceding the first. The Floridian native will be backed by whatever remnants of a limited crowd turn up to this third round match against man of the year so far Aslan Karatsev, as the Russian 17th seed comfortably beat Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets in the second round. Karatsev’s meteoric rise is almost unbelievable right now and Korda will meet a very different player than whom he beat last year in straight sets in the qualifying rounds of Roland-Garros. In this first tour-level meeting, now world number 27 Karatsev is a dark horse for the tile in Miami and should be able to beat in-form Korda in straight sets. The only players to have beaten the Russian so far this season are world number one Novak Djokovic and three Dominic Thiem.
