THE PREDICTION

World number 62 Tennys Sandgren will have been pleased to get a stabilising win under his belt after a tumultuous few opening months of this new season. The 29-year-old has been frustrated on court for some time now and his reward for beating Pedro Martinez in the first round in Miami is world number eight Andrey Rublev, a flat-track bully against almost anyone ranked outside of the top 10. Whilst 23-year-old Rublev’s imperious exterior was pierced for the first time in a while at last week’s Dubai Open by 2021’s surprise package Aslan Karatsev, the Russian is excellent at resetting between tournaments and the bye through to second round allows him some more recovery space. Sandgren lost in straight sets to the Rublev at last year’s German Open and this match looks fairly likely to end in much the same way.
