THE PREDICTION
It is a pleasure to see 24-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis back on tour and the Aussie came through the qualifiers strongly in Miami before a straight-sets victory over Shintaro Mochizuki. The current world number 243 famously beat Roger Federer at this tournament back in 2018 before a series of injuries decimated his progress but he should get an extra buss from playing here three years later. This will be a fantastic first meeting between two exciting players as world number 40 Marton Fucsovics enjoys the benefits of a well-earned seeding here at 29th after reaching the final at the Rotterdam Open and back-to-back quarter-finals in Doha and Dubai. The Hungarian was unlucky enough to face Andrey Rublev in each of those tournaments, losing twice and pulling out of their Qatar Open quarter-final, and it could have been so different for the 29-year-old over the last month if he had met an easier challenge. To that end, Fucsovics is in excellent form and should leave this second round match the winner but Kokkinakis could force a decider here. Each of Fucsovics’ last four wins on tour have come via three sets, so take that option and try to catch what could be the best match of day.
