THE PREDICTION
Miami Open qualifier Mackenzie McDonald won a bad-tempered first round match with Vasek Pospisil on Wednesday via three sets and will now face a really intriguing test against home favourite John Isner. The 35-year-old veteran won this event back in 2018, by far his most illustrious title, and has an incredible record on American soil with 13 of his 15 total ATP titles won in the United States. Isner’s service game is almost as potent as ever but he has been selective with his tournaments this season and it is hard to tell how he will fare in his first match. With limited crowds likely to support both players through the ebb and flow of this match, McDonald will relish the opportunity to face Isner in Florida and the world number 120 has played well enough this season to warrant a set at least here. Taking this match to go to a decider seems a fairly reasonable outcome and it looks worth leaving there, though if he is fit and firing Isner should be able to come through eventually.
