World number 162 Hugo Gaston has failed so far to live up to the incredible run he made at last year’s Roland-Garros but the 20-year-old is certainly an interesting future prospect. The Frenchman made very short work of Mexican open semi-finalist Dominik Koepfer on Wednesday to make the second round but has drawn a short straw in facing the 21st
seed Jannik Sinner just over two weeks after losing to the Italian at the Marseille Open. Sinner beat Gaston in comfortable fashion that day and looks set for more of the same here. The 19-year-old finished off last season with his first ATP title at the Sofia Open and started 2021 in exactly the same way with his second title at the Great Ocean Road Open in Melbourne, though he has struggled at times since. The no-doubt future star has more than enough for Gaston, though, and should come through in two sets here against the difficult, diminutive left-hander.
