World number 18 Felix Auger-Aliassime will play his first Miami Open match this year in the Men’s Doubles alongside Hubert Hurkacz as the pair team up once again after winning the last Masters event together in Paris last November. Having received a bye to the second round as the 11th
seed here, the 20-year-old will face a doubles specialist in Pierre-Hugues Herbert with the Frenchman continuing some impressive, slightly surprising strong form of late. World number 74 Herbert beat Stefanos Tsitsipas and Ugo Humbert two weeks ago on his way to the Marseille Open final, which was the last place he faced Auger-Aliassime, in fact, losing to the Canadian there last year in three sets. There are plenty of ifs and buts about this match, with their head-to-head record currently finely poised at 1-1. Notably, Tsitsipas left Marseille for the Mexican Open where he then went on to beat Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals and so on very recent results it could be suggested 29-year-old Herbert has a real chance here. Take this match to go to three sets, as it did the last time they met, and to guard against this match’s sense of an upset leave it there. The obvious line is for the 20-year-old to come through but Herbert is something of an anomaly right now and perennially underestimated.
