24-year-old Ernesto Escobedo continued his string qualifying form through to the first round of the Miami Open with a pretty comprehensive straight-sets win over Paolo Lorenzi. His reward is an interesting challenge against the 16th seed Dusan Lajovic, who has struggled for consistency since an impressive run to the round of 16 of the Australian Open last month. The 30-year-old has only beaten two players since then, though rather anomalously he shocked Daniil Medvedev in the first round of the Rotterdam Open. World number 205 Escobedo will have to win one of the biggest matches of his career here but there is a real sense of an upset about this second round match.
