THE PREDICTION
World number 11 Denis Shapovalov enjoyed a run to the semi-finals of the Dubai Open last week before losing to an inspired Lloyd Harris over three sets. The Canadian has incredible ATP 1000 event pedigree already at the tender age of 21 having reached five Masters semi-finals, including Miami in 2018, and the Paris Masters final in 2019. It is not a cliché to suggest that the only person keeping Shapovalov from a first title is himself at this event with so many top players missing from the draw and he should be targeting the quarter-finals at least in Miami this year. Shapovalov will face Ilya Ivashka for a third time, having beaten the Belarusian in both of their previous meetings, after the world number 116 came through an incredibly tough match with Soon-woo Kwon via three tiebreaks. 27-year-old Ivashka is a battler but will likely be overpowered enough times by Shapovalov’s sometimes awesome power strokes to see this go to the sixth seed in straight sets.
