THE PREDICTION
28-year-old Denis Kudla provided one of the shocks of the Miami Open first round when he beat in-form Jeremy Chardy over three sets to set-up a first encounter with world number 37 Hubert Hurkacz. 24-year-old Hurkacz is the 26th seed here and much better than his current ATP ranking with some recent defeats, most notably a three-set loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Rotterdam Open, very close indeed. Playing in the Men’s Doubles here with his 2020 Paris Masters co-champion Felix Auger-Aliassime is likely to help his game out in these earlier rounds and Hurkacz could be a dark horse for a deep run in Miami with so many top predators missing. Kudla is always a dangerous anomaly and perennially underestimated but Hurkacz is unlikely to make that mistake and this should fall in straight sets for the Pole.
