THE PREDICTION

World number 23 Alex de Minaur has struggled for consistency this season since starting so well by winning the opening tournament of the year in Turkey. The 22-year-old still has an 8-5 record for 2021 so far and plenty of scope for a deep run in Miami if he can find his best form. The 15th seed here will face Daniel Elahi Galan after the Colombian took his South American swing form into the first round to beat Thiago Seyboth Wild in assured straight sets. 24-year-old made it to the semi-finals of the Chile Open earlier this month before losing to eventual Cristian Garin and despite an honest work ethic it is unlikely he can match De Minaur for pace or power. De Minaur needs a good performance here but the conditions in Miami and the prospect of some support suit the youngster and he should be able to come through in two sets.
