World number eight Andrey Rublev completed a hat-trick of wins over poor Marton Fucsovics just this month after also beating the Hungarian at the Rotterdam Open and last week’s Dubai Open. Rublev totally dominated proceedings on Monday to reach the round of 16 at the Miami Open and will now face Marin Cilic for a fourth time in their careers, leading their head-to-head record 2-1. 32-year-old Cilic was assured in defeating a plucky challenger in 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti, also in straight sets, but knows the kind of player he will find next in the Russian. Rublev beat Cilic in two straight-sets encounters back in 2019, including at the last edition of this very tournament, and the 23-year-old’s performances against Fucsovics looks near his battering-ram best. No matter the pedigree of the Croat, it will take someone at the top of their game to take out the fourth seed here and Rublev should come through this tough test in straight sets once again.
