THE PREDICTION
Miami Open’s 26th seed Hubert Hurkacz played exceptionally well to beat a somewhat distracted Denis Shapovalov on Monday over straight sets. The Pole has now won both his matches without dropping a set and via a tiebreak to show real grit at this Masters. The 24-year-old will meet a seemingly immovable object in Milos Raonic, though, who has been in equally excellent form this fortnight in Miami. The world number 19 was prolific against Ugo Humbert but should frighten the rest of the draw as he looked to have an extra gear or two left to reach against the Frenchman. Despite his excellent performance against Shapovalov, Hurkacz was feeding well off of his opponent’s mistakes and that is simply something Milos Raonic is not offering up right now. The Canadian can gather up steam with each passing round at these Masters events until he meets a true elite player like Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev or so often over the years Andy Murray, but he looks like a real dark horse for the final four at least in this form and should come through here. Take Raonic to win outright and add at least one tiebreak in the match for value with Hurkacz unlikely to give ground easily.
