THE PREDICTION
World number two and Miami Open first seed Daniil Medvedev played out an incredibly tough three-set slog with in-form Aussie youngster Alexei Popyrin on Sunday and was cramping throughout the third set. Whilst the Russian can often suffer a blip halfway through a long Masters campaign, and indeed he did at the Australian Open last month before reaching the final, he suddenly looks a little more fallible for the rest of the draw. World number 58 Frances Tiafoe has reached the round of 16 the hard way after three-straight matches in which he has had to fight back from a set down to Stefano Travaglia, Dan Evans and, on Sunday, Dusan Lajovic, but the American can clearly stay in matches until the very last and that could serve him well here. 23-year-old Tiafoe is and has always been as good as he looks in Miami this fortnight, with concentration or mentality perhaps his current weaknesses, and the Floridian native has great pedigree at this tournament already having made his third round of 16 here in four appearances. This will be a really enjoyable match between a now definitely tuned-in Tiafoe and 25-year-old Medvedev, who will be more dangerous exactly now the rest of the draw saw him almost fall. Despite his best efforts, Tiafoe is likely to lose this match in straight sets to the favourite for the title. Medvedev leads a 3-0 head-to-head record against the American and Tiafoe has taken just one set from those three matches.
