THE PREDICTION
This looks a tricky match to call a winner for after world number 82 Steve Johnson played just his first game this year at last week’s Mexican Open, losing in straight sets to Laslo Djere in Acapulco. He will face 29-year-old Yannick Hanfmann for the first time in this first round match with the German not in much better form to speak of, though at least he has played five matches on tour this season. The slight home advantage for 31-year-old Johnson playing in front of a limited home crowd of supporting Americans should help him through here but it could be a pedestrian match in Miami. Hanfmann has only beaten James Duckworth this year and Johnson’s level should be high enough to come through this.
